Inspiration: Winter Views

Last week, we had a storm and everything was gray and white and silver. Then the weather turned and the day that Gwen actually came for our photoshoot was green and golden. It's one interesting thing about living here.

We like to say that if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes, it will change.

Nothing inspires me like looking at the world through my camera lens, so here are some views of winter in all their variety. I like to think of it all as inspiration, because I just never know when I'm going to really feel strongly about turning some image or impression into a stitch pattern, a colorway or some other kind of medium for creativity. It all mixes together in my mind and is usually a pleasant surprise when it shows up again in some form.

My daughter on Christmas morning. For the last 18.5 years,
I've designed a lot of things with the word "Sara's" in the title.
Copper dusted with ice, an unexpected combination.
Pines in the snowstorm-quiet, cold, still.

Watching my kids dance with friends onstage at a
Latin music concert-movement, joy, energy.
One of my favorite photographic
subjects-majestic, reverent, strong.

And last but not least, a gorgeous, sunny view of winter.
I love this of my pal Gwen.
